For this DB, draw on course materials and on 1-2 media articles from our Yellowdig discussion to develop a discussion post. You can use the articles you brought to Yellowdig, or draw on those that other students posted instead. Then, develop a post that speaks to the issues in this module, for ex. on the future of the BRI as a form of globalization or the ways in which Covid-19 has reshaped China’s ambitions and goals around the BRI. You may also build your post around a question about the BRI, or around US-China relations, to which you are not sure of the answer. Your post should be ~400 words. You should of course provide links to the articles that you use. There is no need to reply to others over here.

I found Narins and Agnew’s article very insightful! The analysis of China’s expansion and how that expansion can be assessed in terms of globalism and sovereignty sheds a lot of light on the current state if the Chinese state. I found this article on The Economist, it covers an enormous new canal China is building in Guangxi. I think it is very relevant because it describes the type of development the Chinese state is aggressively pursuing; namely, infrastructure. It paints a picture of China acting as a catalyst for economic development around the region and thereby creating a strong Asia that is China-centric. Much like the American centrism we see in Europe and in many international institutions. For me, the largest question that remains about Chinese hegemony is how China will deal with other nations politically. Will they encourage communist/authoritarian political change in the region? And how will the West react to a growing number of countries embracing China’s political desires?
