For this DB, draw on course materials and on 1-2 media articles from our Yellowdig discussion to develop a discussion post. You can use the articles you brought to Yellowdig, or draw on those that other students posted instead. Then, develop a post that speaks to the issues in this module, for ex. on the future of the BRI as a form of globalization or the ways in which Covid-19 has reshaped China’s ambitions and goals around the BRI. You may also build your post around a question about the BRI, or around US-China relations, to which you are not sure of the answer. Your post should be ~400 words. You should of course provide links to the articles that you use. There is no need to reply to others over here.

The essay by Narins and Agnew really piqued my interest! It is possible to learn a lot about the present situation of the Chinese state by analyzing China’s growth and how that expansion may be evaluated in terms of globalism and sovereignty. This story, which I saw on The Economist, discusses a big new canal China is constructing in Guangxi. It reflects the kind of infrastructure development that the Chinese government is actively seeking, which is why I believe it to be quite significant. It presents a vision of China serving as a catalyst for regional economic growth and forging a powerful, China-centric Asia. Similar to American centrism, which is prevalent in many international organizations and in Europe. The biggest unanswered issue I have regarding Chinese hegemony is how China will interact politically with other countries. Will they support authoritarian/communist political change in the area? And how will the West respond as more nations embrace China’s political objectives?
