To write the media critique for this course, you must:

1. Select one or more of the specifical theories covered in week 3 (i.e., liberal feminist theory, Marxist/socialist feminist theory, radical feminist theory, multiracial/multiethnic feminisms, masculinity theory, queer theory, liberation hypothesis, power and control theory, etc.).

2. Choose a movie, television show, or television series to critique using your selected theoretical perspective. The media does not need to explicitly talk about the theory, but you should be able to point to examples of what the selected media gets right and wrong about its characters based on what you learned from the theory.

3. Write a 2-3 page paper (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font) that critiques your selected movie or show based on what you learned about the theory. This should include:
<
a. An informative title on a title page (not included in the page count)
<
b. An introduction that includes the following components:
<
i. Tell me the show or movie you are critiquing
<
ii. The theory that you are basing your critique on, and describe the central tenets of the theory you are using
<
iii. At least one citation in APA format to source material that is not my lecture video (i.e., the textbook, a peer-reviewed journal article, or reliable source such as a government document or research brief)

c. Briefly summarize the plot of the move or show and introduce any main characters
<
d. Analyze the show or movie in light of your selected theory. Questions to think about:
<
i. How are women, people of color, and/or LGBTQ+ individuals depicted in the show?
<
ii. Are women, people of color, and/or LGBTQ+ individuals depicted differently than men or white or straight characters?
<
iii. Are any gendered and/or racialized stereotypes present? If so, what ware they and how do they align with what we have discussed.

e. A conclusion summarizing the arguments made in your paper
