READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS! 1. Review all videos on Course Arc regarding observations, then watch Professor Kate Curry’s Video in the Running Record section of Course Arc. Download both the Running Record and the sample Running Record.
<
<
2. Read Chapter 7 and look carefully at Figure 7.2 pg 166 (Example of a Running Record). Notice that the Observation is objective. Notes or comments analyzes the behavior.
<
<
3. You will focus on connecting your observation to the Pre-K PA Early Learning Standards (PK PA ELS).
<
<
Do not worry about connecting to Wortham & Hardin or Trawick-Smith, you will be expected to do this for your Observation Packets in Weeks 9-12. Your textbook does not connect their observation to research based documents, but we are teaching you how to do this so you can apply it to your teaching methodology. You only need to list 3-4 PK PA ELS. Hint-we observe the child talking-so look in Language, Standard Area 1.5, Speaking, p. 29. We also see the child do something with their hands-that’s Physical, Standard Area 10.5, Fine Motor, p. 75.
<
4. Watch the Video: On Course Arc, watch the video and document what you see/hear in the left hand column. Make sure you include all of the “Components of Observation”; objectivity, specificity, directness, mood, and completeness. Here is an Example of a Running Record.
<
<
5. Make sure you cite the PK PA ELS in the Running Record on the right hand side. For example: (OCDEL, 2014).
